Don’t get confused by looking at the picture of these boots and reading the awesome reviews. I was excited for them to arrive only to be near-tears disappointed when these ugly little pirate boots came out of the box. Beware the picture gals; these babies slouch to the ankle and are way too casual for work…unless you’re a bartender. And despite being called “tall” they actually reach only mid-calf. The suede is papery-thin and the black shows every itty-bitty scuff. They are comfortable though, but so trashy looking, it’d be embarrassing to be seen in them. Guess I’ll use them for next year’s sexy pirate Halloween costume. Arrh! What a disappointment.

I got these boots in Light Brown, and they are sooooo wonderful! The suede is soft and smooth, the fit is true to size, the heels are the perfect height for a comfortable walk and slightly elongated legs, and the boots are very comfortable! I tried these on at Macy’s before I bought them on Amazon. I can wear them over skinny jeans or with a dress and tights. They are elegantly shaped and looks clean and of good quality (for what you’d expect from Nine West with less than a $170 original price tag. I mean, they’re not $500 boots to begin with, you get what you pay for), however, they are slouchy, which is good for a casual look (which is also why I picked light brown, since it’s a casual color and can stand scuffs without showing them too much). I love these boots and think they are a great deal. The toes are a very fashionable shape that won’t go out of style: not too pointy and not too round. This is a style that you can wear for years. You may think the sideways strap will make the front look strange, but it doesn’t. It looks great.

Overall, I am very pleased with this boot. Being someone who hates walking in heels, this boot provides a comfortable fit without sacrificing style. The heel is just high enough to make my legs look longer, but I don’t feel like I’m walking in heels at all. The suede is very soft, as others have noted. I also have trouble with boots because of my calves, but these fit without any problems, even with jeans tucked in, and without any problems with cutting of circulation to my feet. They are also very true to size.
However, as others have noted, the color is darker than advertised (I got the light brown, but they look like the medium or dark brown, but they still look great). They do indeed slouch, more than the photo would suggest, but I think they look pretty good if they’re somewhat slouchy. I don’t think they look “piratey” like one reviewer wrote, but I can see how she would make such a comment. Also, as others have said, they are more like mid-calf boots, rather than tall boots, especially with the slouch.
The positives outweigh the negatives for me. Primarily, I look for comfort in a shoe, and these meet and exceed those expectations. It is a bonus that they are cute and fashionable. I recommend them, especially since they’re on sale!

COMFORT – only wore these boots a couple of times, but, so far, they have been very comfortable. I did not notice the heel at all. I’m NOT a fan of high heels and would normally not purchase heels that are 2″ or taller, but, wedge heels at this height seem to be as comfortable as flat heels to me.
COLOR – purchased the dark green. The color is difficult to describe but, I would say that they are closer to dark olive green than dark green.
SIZING – The shoe size seems true to me. As a woman with long legs, the boot does not come very close to my knee about 5-6″ shorter. It fits more mid-calf on me.
Measuring from the outside back heel to the top of the boot it is approx. 15″ tall and measuring from the inside heel to the top of the boot it is approx. 13″ tall. In other words, the heel is approx. 2″ and the boot height should be about 13″ high on your leg. The width of the boot at the top can allow for approx. 5″ in width. The buckle can be used to tighten the overall width of the leg.
STYLE – I tucked my jeans inside the boot and they stayed up for me. I have not tried wearing the boots with tights yet maybe they would not stay up as well? I don’t know, so, I cannot comment on that, but, that may be why one customer had difficulty with the boots falling down?
QUALITY – They are made in China. I would be surprised if they actually sold at the retail price listed of approx. $170.00. I would not pay $170.00. They look to me like they would sell for around $100.00 at the beginning of the season and go down in price from there. When I purchased these boots from Amazon in December I Paid approx. $50.00 and they were available in four colors and I saw Macy’s had one color (tan) listed on line for $89.00.
OVERALL – I am happy with my purchase.

These boots are made for those with larger calves. I wear a size 9 and my calves are by no means skinny, but these boots slouch terribly. They are definitely not meant to slouch and look awful. If you have fairly large ankles and calves, this boot is for you. Almost peferct…
